Creating extra product tabs

Once you have installed the WooCommerce Product Tabs plugin, you can start adding extra tabs to your product pages. There are two ways to do this:

  • Create tabs centrally so that they can appear on multiple products.
  • Add tabs directly to a specific product.

Here's a video tutorial which jumps straight to the part about how to add new tabs.

Creating tabs centrally

How to add tab to WooCommerce product

Use this method when creating tabs that will appear on 2 or more products:

  1. In the WordPress Dashboard, go to WooCommerce Product Tabs Pro → Product Tabs and click 'Add New'.
  2. Add the following information:
    • Title - This will appear as the title of the tab on the product page, so keep this clear and short.
    • Content - Add the content that will appear inside the tab on the product page. You can add absolutely anything here - text, images, shortcodes from other plugins, embedded audio and video, iframes, and so on. If WordPress supports it, then it will work inside a tab!
    • Tab icon - If you would like an icon to appear next to the tab name, then select an icon here. (Tip: If you add an icon then we'd also recommend adding icons to the default tabs which come with WooCommerce itself. You can do this on the plugin settings page.)
    • Visibility:
      • Display globally on all products - Select this to make the tab appear on every product in your store.
      • Show on specific products, categories or tags - If you just want to display it on specific products, then choose this and select the products in the options that appear below:
        • Products - Use this to select individual products that you would like the tab to appear on. Start typing a product name in the box to search for a specific product.
        • Product categories - Tick any categories that you would like the tab to appear on. The tab will appear on all products in the selected categories.
        • Product tags - If you'd like the tab to appear on all products with a specific tag, then select these tags here. (Tip: Product tabs are managed under Products → Tags in the WordPress admin. You can add tags to individual products on the 'Edit Product' screen for each product.)
  3. Click the blue 'Publish' button to save the tab. It will start appearing on your product pages immediately.

Add tabs directly to a specific product

WooCommerce add tab to individual product

To add a tab to a specific product, you still need to add it centrally using the instructions above. This allows you to select which product the tab will appear on.

Overriding tab content for specific products

The 'Edit Product' screen for each product includes a copy of all the tabs which have been added on that product. These might be global tabs, or tabs that you have added to a category or tab that applies to the product.

By default, the content that you added globally for these tabs will be displayed. If you wish, then you can override this so that the overall tab is managed centrally, but the actual tab content is unique to that one product.

To do this:

  1. Go to the 'Edit Product' screen and scroll down to the 'Product Data' section.
  2. Find the 'Product Tabs' tab and open it.
  3. You will see a list of all the tabs that have been added to the product.
  4. To override the global content for a tab, click on its title to open it, and then tick the "Override the default tab content for this product" box.
  5. This will reveal a new content box and icon selector, which you can use to override the tab content and icon for that product only.

Note: If you wish to edit the tab name then this can only be done globally. The only way to have different tab names per product is to go to Products → Product Tabs and create a completely separate tab for each product.

FAQ

Can I add more than one tab to a product?

Yes, you can add an unlimited number of tabs to each product. Just keep adding extra tabs as needed.

When adding multiple tabs to a product, we recommend keeping the tab title short. This generally looks better on the product page as each tab takes up less space.

Can I select products, tags and categories?

Absolutely! The visibility options in WooCommerce Product Tabs are not mutually exclusive, and you can mix and match them in any way you like.

Please note that if you enable the 'Use Default for All' option then the tab will appear on all your products, regardless of which products/categories/tags you have selected.

What other options are available for my product tabs?

In addition to the options which appear when you create a tab, you can configure the styling and behavior of your product tabs on the settings page.
