New in Document Library Pro: Filters for grid layout + document expiry
Document Library Pro is now better than ever! It now has filter dropdowns for the grid layout, plus a feature to automatically expire documents on a certain date.
We're always looking for ways to improve our bestselling Document Library Pro plugin. After months of hard work, today we've released version 1.15. This has two major new features which our customers have asked for.
Keep reading to learn about the new features and how to use them on your WordPress site.
Add filters to the grid layout
Until now, you could add filter dropdowns above the document library table view, but not the grid layout. We received a huge number of feature requests from customers wanting to add similar filters to the document library grid. As a result, we got to work and made it happen!
Your visitors can now filter the document grid by category, tag, or any custom taxonomy (e.g. author, year, publisher, etc.).
To achieve this, we’ve moved the filter settings to the main plugin settings page at Documents → Settings, instead of the table settings where they were previously. You can edit these as needed to show/hide the filters.
Automatically expire documents
Lots of document libraries contain time-limited documents which need to be removed from the library on a certain date. For example, you might replace certain policy documents each years and auto-expire the old one, instead of using the built-in version control to update an existing document.
We previously recommended a free plugin that you could use to auto-expire documents. However, for your convenience we have now added a ‘Document expiry’ feature directly to Document Library Pro.
You can find the new 'Expiry' option in the 'Publish' section in the top right corner of the 'Add/Edit Document' page. Use this to select a date, and the document will be changed to ‘Draft’ status and removed from your public-facing document library on that date.
