Introducing volume bundles: The smarter way to offer quantity discounts in WooCommerce

Discover the new way to offer volume bundles in WooCommerce!
We’re excited to announce a powerful new feature in our WooCommerce Discount Manager plugin — a new “volume bundles” discount type. This gives you a whole new way to offer quantity-based discounts in your store. It’s perfect for encouraging customers to buy more while keeping your discount strategy flexible and clear.
We came up with the idea as part of the planning process for our Shopify app, Barn2 Bundles & Bulk Discounts. While researching quantity-based pricing in Shopify, we discovered that volume bundles are incredibly popular with merchants and their customers. And yet they barely even exist in WooCommerce! That's because most WooCommerce product bundle plugins are about mix and matching different products - not encouraging customers to buy more of the same product.
As a result, we got to work and now WooCommerce store owners can benefit from the same strategy 🚀
In this post, we’ll walk you through what volume bundles are, how they’re different from our existing bulk discount pricing, and the unique benefits they offer for your store.
What are volume bundles?
Volume bundles are a way to incentivize customers to buy more of a product — or more items from a group of related products — by offering a fixed discount when they reach certain quantity thresholds. Unlike tiered pricing, where the price per item changes depending on the quantity, volume bundles apply a flat total discount based on what’s in the cart.
Here’s a simple example:
- Buy 3+ and get $10 off.
- Buy 5+ and get $20 off.
- Buy 10+ and get $50 off.
This approach makes it crystal clear to customers how much they’ll save, without having to do mental math on price-per-item. It also makes your offers feel more like bundles, rather than pricing changes — which can be especially effective from a marketing perspective.
How do volume bundles work in WooCommerce Discount Manager?

With the new volume bundles, you can:
- Create quantity discounts that apply a fixed amount off the total price.
- Offer a choice of fixed or percentage discounts for each bundle.
- Allow customers to mix and match product variations to build a bundle (e.g. they might select 2 color variations to take advantage of a “Buy 2 & save 20%” offer.
- Set multiple volume bundle tiers with different discount amounts.
- Customize the wording shown on product pages, for example marking certain bundles as “Popular” or “Best value”.
- Schedule the bundle offers to appear on specific dates, choose which WooCommerce user roles will see them, and more.
- Save time by adding the same volume bundle deals to appear on multiple products or entire categories.
For example, you might offer:
- “Buy any 3 t-shirts and save $15”.
- “Buy 5+ cleaning supplies and get $10 off your total”.
- “Spend less when you stock up — buy 10+ and save $30”.
You can use this new discount type to encourage larger purchases, clear inventory, or reward loyal customers who buy in bulk.
How are volume bundles different from tiered bulk pricing?
Our existing “bulk pricing” discount type lets you set up quantity-based tiers where the price per item changes depending on how many the customer adds to their cart. It also includes optional tiered pricing tables that display these levels on the product page.
Tiered pricing is great for stores where customers want to see a price breakdown per item — for example:
- 1–4 items: $10 each.
- 5–9 items: $9 each.
- 10+ items: $8 each.
Volume bundles take a different approach. Instead of changing the unit price, you keep the product price the same and offer a fixed discount off the total bundle. This works better when you want to offer a clear, compelling message such as:
- “Buy 3+ and save $10”.
- “Spend more, save more”.
It’s a matter of psychology: a clear dollar amount saved can often feel more tangible and motivating than a unit price drop — especially for non-technical or mobile shoppers who don’t want to analyze tables.
Why volume bundles are so effective
Volume bundles are incredibly versatile and effective. Here’s why:
- They’re simple and appealing. Customers instantly understand what they’ll save. “Buy 3+ and get $10 off” is more direct than “pay $8.33 per item”.
- They work well for grouped products. You can apply volume bundles to categories or tags — so customers can mix and match items and still get the discount.
- They boost average order value. When customers see a discount waiting just a few more items away, they’re more likely to add to their cart to unlock it.
- They reduce friction. Because the product price stays the same, you don’t have to worry about confusing customers with changing price tags or variations.
Whether you're running a clearance event, promoting a product range, or encouraging larger orders, volume bundles give you a flexible tool to drive more revenue without cutting into your margins unnecessarily.
Use cases for WooCommerce volume bundles
Here are just a few ideas for how to use this new discount type:
1. Mix-and-match category discounts
Let customers mix and match any combination of products from a category — like “skincare” or “snacks” — and give them $10 off if they buy 5 or more. This helps you promote your full range instead of individual items.
2. Pre-configured product bundles
Instead of manually creating a fixed bundle product, just offer a volume bundle discount on a group of related products. You’ll get the same upsell effect with less admin.
3. Wholesale and B2B incentives
Many B2B buyers visiting your Shopify store want discounts for buying in larger volumes — but they also want the flexibility to choose which items to buy. Volume bundles give you a simple, customer-friendly way to offer this. This can be particularly helpful if you use our WooCommerce Wholesale Pro plugin.

4. Inventory clearance
Need to shift older stock? Offer an automatic discount for anyone who buys 3+ items from a clearance category. Volume bundles should be an essential part of your WooCommerce inventory management.
Seamless integration with your existing discount strategy
Volume bundles are designed to work alongside all the other discount types in WooCommerce Discount Manager, including:
- Bulk pricing tiers.
- Buy X, get Y.
- Free products.
- Coupon-based discounts.
You’re in full control of how and when each type of discount applies, with priority settings to make sure they don’t conflict.
