Sometimes, you want to sell the remaining stock of a variation before discontinuing it. You can do this as follows:

  1. Go to the 'Edit Product' screen for the variable product. You will find this in the 'Products' section of the WordPress admin.
  2. Next, go to the 'Variations' tab and open up the variation that you are marking as discontinued. Make sure the 'Manage stock' option is ticked, and that you have entered the number of items remaining in stock.

Discontinue products in bulk

The plugin provides a quick way to discontinue multiple products at once:

  1. Go to the main 'Products' list in the WordPress admin.
  2. Select the products that you want to discontinue.
  3. Open the 'Bulk Actions' dropdown and click 'Edit' and then 'Apply'.
  4. Select the 'Discontinued' status from the 'In stock?' dropdown.
  5. Click the 'Update' button below.

Please note that if you discontinue a variable product using this bulk action, then all the variations for that product will be discontinued.

What happens to discontinued products?

Discontinued products and variations are treated differently from other stock statuses:

  • The product is not purchasable, so the quantity picker and add to cart button is hidden.
  • The Discontinued text appears on the single product page, styled the same as the 'Out of stock' message for out of stock products.
  • If you are hiding discontinued products from your store then they will not appear on your shop and product listing pages.
  • The product is marked as being discontinued wherever the stock status is displayed on your website, including in the WordPress admin and stock reports.
